So, in the middle of everything today, we ran across a hellaciously distressed momma mallard and a bunch of her baby ducks that had fallen down a sewer grate. Another guy was already trying to fish them out, so my friend and I called animal control before we tried to fish the rest of them out. When Animal Control got there, we had all of them out and the mother duck quacking very happily. I was surprised - none of us got snapped at or hurt. I was even holding onto a bag at one point that had all of them in it and she just watched me.

Mama Mallard and her little ducklings. Aren’t they just so cute?

Ducklings appear hesitant as they prepare for their first aquatic outing with their mother.
Wood ducks… er, a momma wood duck and her wood ducklings? Something like that.
Help me out with the tags.

hkos:
new baby ducklings.
mama duck decided to set up in a flower-pot on a balcony in frankfurt, a few weeks ago. yesterday morning the chicks were chirping - and within a few hours proceeded to look out from under their mother, and wander to the nearby pond.
turns out all 12 eggs hatched, so it’s a pretty impressive row of ducks.

A couple times every year, the same duck will have tons of little babies, and once they’ve hatched, they hang around for a couple days and then go down to the river.
I took this when the smallest of the ducklings had fallen on their back. They are the cutest!
